Introducing the WTO-S35 Owltrek Single-Mode OTDR FP 1310/1550nm, a high-performance optical transceiver designed for data center and telecommunications applications. This transceiver is manufactured by Owltrek, a leading supplier of optical communication components.
The WTO-S35 is a single-mode transceiver, which means it uses a single optical fiber to transmit data. It operates at wavelengths of 1310nm and 1550nm, making it suitable for both short and long-haul fiber optic communications. The use of single-mode fiber ensures minimal signal loss and high bandwidth, making it an ideal solution for high-speed data transfer.
This transceiver is an Optical Time Domain Refractometer (OTDR) type, which allows for built-in fiber testing and fault location. The OTDR technology measures the optical properties of the fiber and provides valuable information about the fiber length, attenuation, and fiber faults. This feature makes the WTO-S35 an excellent choice for network administrators and engineers looking to maintain and troubleshoot their fiber optic networks.
The WTO-S35 is designed to meet the latest industry standards, including IEEE 802.3z, IEEE 802.3ae, and SFF-8431. It supports data rates of up to 10Gbps and operates over a wide temperature range of -5 C to 70 C. The transceiver also features a compact, rugged design and is RoHS compliant.
The WTO-S35 comes with a LC connector interface, making it compatible with standard fiber optic cabling. It is also available in various optical power levels, including 0dBm, 2dBm, and 3dBm, to meet different network requirements.
The WTO-S35 Owltrek Single-Mode OTDR FP 1310/1550nm transceiver is a reliable and versatile solution for high-speed data transfer and network connectivity. Its advanced features, including OTDR technology and compatibility with industry standards, make it an excellent choice for data center, telecommunications, and other fiber optic applications.
The Owl OWTO-S35 OwlTrek single-mode OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflector) transceiver is a fiber optic component designed for use in telecommunications and data center applications. Here are some potential pros and cons of buying this transceiver:
Pros:1. Single-mode fiber optic technology: This transceiver supports single-mode fiber optic cables, which offer greater bandwidth, longer transmission distances, and less signal attenuation compared to multimode fiber optic cables.
2. OTDR technology: OTDR technology is a type of testing and monitoring technology that uses time domain reflectometry to measure the distance to faults or reflections in optical fibers. It can help improve network performance and reliability.
3. 1310/1550nm support: The OWTO-S35 transceiver supports both 1310nm and 1550nm wavelengths, making it a versatile option for various telecommunications applications.
4. FP (Ferrule Push-Pull) connector: The transceiver uses an FP connector, which is a common type of fiber optic connector that is easy to use and provides a reliable connection.
Cons:1. Cost: Single-mode fiber optic transceivers like the OWTO-S35 can be more expensive compared to multimode fiber optic transceivers due to their higher performance and longer transmission distances.
2. Requires specialized knowledge and equipment: Installing and configuring single-mode fiber optic transceivers like the OWTO-S35 may require specialized knowledge and equipment, which can add to the cost and complexity of the project.
3. Limited compatibility: The OWTO-S35 is a specific model of transceiver, and it may not be compatible with all types of networking equipment or fiber optic cables. It's important to check the compatibility before making a purchase.
Conclusion:The Owl OWTO-S35 OwlTrek single-mode OTDR transceiver offers high-performance fiber optic connectivity for telecommunications and data center applications. Its support for both 1310nm and 1550nm wavelengths, OTDR technology, and FP connector make it a versatile and reliable option. However, it may be more expensive than multimode transceivers, and it may require specialized knowledge and equipment to install and configure. Ultimately, the decision to buy the OWTO-S35 will depend on the specific needs and budget of the organization.
Recommendation:If your organization requires high-performance fiber optic connectivity for telecommunications or data center applications, and you have the necessary knowledge and resources to install and configure single-mode transceivers like the OWTO-S35, then it may be a worthwhile investment. However, if cost is a concern or if multimode fiber optic cables are sufficient for your needs, then a multimode transceiver may be a more cost-effective option. It's important to carefully evaluate your organization's requirements and budget before making a purchase.
I received this unit from a local municipality along with pictured cables/charger/manual and microscope. Please view pictures for details. Its OTDR port is missing a locking screw please see the 3rd pic. The microscope is in fair/good cosmetic condition with some handling marks.
The OTDR unit powers up, however I don't have knowledge to test it further/properly. You are buying on an OWL WTO-S35 OWLTrek single-mode OTDR. It has clean battery compartment/contacts-it not been tested.
